OLPC Laptop Update
The people behind "One Laptop Per Child" were hoping to make a $100 machine for children in the most "developing" of developing nations, but they have been facing a chicken-and-egg problem. They can only keep the prices low if they get huge orders from governments, but governments won't bite until there are positive testimonials.
So they've announced a new campaign (taking a cue from TOMS Shoes). Buy one laptop for $400 and they'll donate another to a child in a developing nation.
Hopefully this campaign will allow them to prove their product, get bigger orders, and slash the price once economies of scale kick in.
