Al-Jazeera English: The Image Problem
The curious thing about 24-hour global news networks is that each one attempts to sell itself as being the lone bastion of honesty in a great muddled mess of media spin. The notion of a singular, trusted news source is wonderful. But singularities run the risk of becoming myopias. It's through a multiplicity of sources that we can begin to grasp to the reality of the world at large.
That in mind, GOOD has opted to take a look into the world of Al-Jazeera English, a new voice contributing to the ever-evolving global media dialogue. This video investigates the network's inception, attempting to come to terms with the controversy surrounding it. At this point, at least stateside, the conversation regarding Al-Jazeera is pretty polarized. Hell, only Burlington, VT and Toledo, OH have picked up the station. So speak up, tell us what you think, and offer your two cents to this ongoing exchange of ideas.

Very good video.
Until I watched this I had the typical American view on that Al-Jazeera was a terrorist funded news station. For some reason I believed the hype that the media made about it. But after watching this especially the part when he says that they report it because it is news and not some terrorist sympathy love fest. I do believe that there needs to be more international news. I am sick of Americans only being concerned with news that only directly affects them and not the other billions or so people that live in this world. I wish Al-Jazeera was broadcast more around the country and that this fear of Islam related culture would just die already. Thank you GOOD for opening my eyes.

I like the channel
I remember when Al Jazeera English I wanted to watch it as a news junkie, but I was fearful that the US government would view me viewing it -- via www.jumptv.com -- as a concern. The American propaganda machine worked well on me.
Al Jazeera English is a great channel, and I appreciate hearing news from other parts of the world that other news organizations virtually ignore. Further, the news magazines like Listening Post and Witness are wonderful. I hope that it gains more carriage in the US.

Seeing the other side of the coin
Al-Jazeera provides a very different point of vue on international events that are either not covered by US TV broadcasts or when covered biased towards the US. Having a channel that presents different views would elevate the debate and allow US citizens to form their own opinion.

AL-volution
This was an interesting glimpse into what seems to be a perpetual evolution of the Al Jazeera Network. From what I can tell, AJ definitely is more of a positive influence than not in that they are willing to communicate an accurate reflection of what is going on in the Middle East even as the US Gov't paints them as viscious/inaccurate/careless. For now no one stateside has picked up the network, but I would not be surprised if that were to happen in the near future.
Loved the music and the editing of this piece. GOOD!

Awesome.
Succinct, but strong. You're on your way to making a companion piece to the excellent Control Room.
