Break A Leg, Off
Body Integrity Identity Disorder (BIID) is about as strange an affliction as we've ever heard of. Those who suffer from it possess an inexplicable urge to sever one or more of their limbs. This first person account from today's Guardian is the closest we can come to an explanation.

I'm so ashamed I know this.
But Nip/Tuck had a couple of episodes where a patient wanted the plastic surgeons to remove his leg. He was willing to do it himself, but preferred good surgery. They sensationalized the whole thing, of course, made it a big stand-off, but comparing the character's description of his experience to the Guardian description, they (remarkably) resisted the temptation to turn it into a sexual fetish or otherwise fictionalize it.
