H2 R.I.P.
GM has announced it's discontinuing the Hummer H2 in three to six years. It got 7-13 miles per gallon. With oil prices inching ever higher and VW working on a 69.9 MPG hybrid, having the H2 as your flagship model was like recklessly and publicly off-roading into the 1980s.
They aren't even that great for off-roading, actually.

Whither the Tundra?
Of course it was a gas-guzzler. The H2 is/was a luxury off-road vehicle for people who don't give two rats about fuel prices, the environment, other people's opinions.
As a Subaru WRX owner, I can say the H2 is exactly the opposite of what I value in a vehicle, but boy is this Hummer effigy burning from the granola culture getting old. So VW is working on a hybrid--is that news? They also own Audi, which makes it's share of gas-chugging luxorockets. Chevrolet, which lives under the same evil GM umbrella as Hummer, created the Volt, which is completely electric, and can charge on a normal 110V outlet.
Why not pick on the perpetually haloed Toyota? Do the Prius & Corolla really excuse a vehicle as obnoxious as the Tundra?
And to evidence an H2's supposed lack of off-roading prowess with a YouTube of a broken tie-rod is pretty weak. Not to piss in the righteous cheerios of Hummer hatred, but it's common knowledge that every off-road vehicle suffers damage. The "argument" stated above is tantamount to questioning a football player's ability to play lineback because they suffered a broken arm.
For all that, I say good riddance to the inelegant-at-best H2. Though General Motors is more like a government than a corporation, and suffers all the resultant bureaucratic ineptitude, it is still chock full of brilliant, well-meaning people, and can produce world-class vehicles with but will enough and time.
This is my first visit and first post at Good. My enthusiasm is somewhat tempered. I hope there's more thinking going on here than the above article indicates.
