Pangea Day
Documentary filmmaker Jehane Noujaim won the 2006 TED Prize. TED Prize winners get $100,000, but they also get to make a world-changing "wish" that, in theory, comes true with the help of the movers and shakers at the TED conference. Her wish was to bring the world together through film.
So her idea is Pangea Day. In May of 2008 a 4-hour program of inspirational films will be screened in eight cities around the globe, and broadcast online. The films will be punctuated by live speeches and musical performances.
The trailer is below and you can see some of the early submissions here.
We kind of forgot how powerful that footage of the Tank Man from Tiananmen is.
Here's our worry though (and we honestly don't know the answer): with three TED Prize winners each year is an audacious-world-changing-idea fatigue going to set in?

bah humbug!
no such thing as compassion fatigue when it comes to the kind of inspiration TED provides. i think there's so much good to be done in the world in so many areas that there's no danger here. also, TEDsters tend to have such innovative solutions, the ideas alone generate their own energy and enthusiasm.
