WTFCNN?
CNN earned a reputation for serious, comprehensive coverage in the early nineties. A critical mass of people had cable and wanted round-the-clock, on-the-ground coverage of the first Gulf War. We remember CNN.com taking off in the early aughts. With 9/11 and the anthrax and SARS scares, a lot of secondary adopters started turning to the web for up-to-the-minute news.
But market forces–and hollow sensationalism–have prevailed. CNN.com is now half news source and half Ripley's Believe It Or Not. WFTCNN? catalogs ridiculous headlines at CNN.com and they're being kept busy these days. Boing Boing has also noticed.
