As much as the rest of the country thinks we are hybrid-driving, granola-eating, yoga-compulsive lunatics, California actually bravely does lots of cool stuff first. We are pioneering stem-cell research and environmental agreements with China while remaining the world's fifth largest economy, and I for one think we are brilliant iconoclasts, not seitan-subsisting hippie trash. In ten years they will be tying cans to the back of a Prius to celebrate trans-sexual nuptials in Iowa. I can't wait to rub it in their faces. As Jello Biafra says- "California uber alles."

California, you done impressed me today.
With our country, not to mention the world, being in various states of disarray, chaos and struggle be it regarding finances, gas, education, jobs, presidential elections, putting food on the family table or soldiers fighting and dying for various questionable freedoms, this comes as such a beautiful, bright spot of hope that change can occur to better the quality of people's lives.
I am so proud to be a Californian today. GO TEAM!

Although I live in the US, I still managed to get most of my kosher food from Israel. My favorite types of food are challah bread and honey.
There is a company called Holy Food Imports which is US based, but they grow all their products in Israel.
If anyone is interested, you can find their website at www.holyfoodimports.com

I went vegetarian at 9 years old, and my mom was snacking on turkey breast slices. I had no inffulence, I have always just LOVED animals. I went vegan at 10, after trying it that past christmas time. I was not allowed to be vegan, but managed to convince my mother a few moths later. Remember, I was 10. I don`t care what people on farms say. It is cruel, no exceptions. They get slaughtered. Would you like to be nice and comftorable, and then be killed and sold? NO, you wouldn`t!! Am I right? Humans are not any better than animals, they are actually just creating poullution and destroying this beautifull world. You people just don`t get it!!

Thanks for the reminder! The hardest part about laughter (especially when somewhat disturbed) is to remember it's something we can do.
Hope you will check out this same video and lot more at the One World Laff Off blog on wordpress! Get ready to smile along, Andrew, wherever you are--end of February, 2009
(If you are into it then--hardest part is to remember to laugh!)

I *love* this idea. The workplace is a great way to spread ideas. I hope that people who read this do something similar in their workplace.

Sam Slovick has produced an excellent series about Skid Row. The statistics are staggering. The humanity we have left to fend for themselves, as if this were Survivor, presents a truly tragic scene.
I must also give him kudos for venturing into this untamed land armed only with a camera. Working with this population, not on Skid Row, I not only hear about the horrors of that section of L.A. but I hear about the brutality of homelessness in general. Some of the hard core homeless, those folks who don't try to get off the street, have little understanding of or respect for "ordinary" people (those with 9 to 5 jobs and homes).
These are often the first to complain about the injustice of being made to wait in a line to eat. Some, not all, but some of these same people are the first to intimidate or brutalize another homeless person to get what they want. This is another aspect of homelessness of which I think the public at large is unaware.
I can't help but remember one child in the series saying, "take me with you." What has he seen? What has his mother done to feed her addiction? What has the child done to survive? Is he continuing the cycle?
Is it any wonder many residents of Skid Row are drug vendors or users?
As another viewer said; I would also like to see a follow up or update to this series. It would be interesting to see how much, if anything has changed and in what way. What about the children?
