Every community has its share of problems. And every community has its share of people eager to solve them. But sometimes notions of where to start or how to help can be elusive. A number of otherwise energized volunteers simply don’t know where to begin.
The Hands On Network is the country’s largest volunteer network, an organization that mobilizes, equips and recognizes millions of people who address the spectrum of social issues. Through a dynamic association of over 370 volunteer centers, nonprofits, companies, and federal programs, the network provides the volunteer sector with innovative ideas and technologies. It also connects individuals to opportunities for meeting critical needs—inspiring citizens to find meaning and transform their own lives by assisting others.
On August 1, 2007, the Points of Light Foundation and the Hands On Network combined forces to empower Americans to build a better world through volunteering. In the past year, the united organization awarded $4.5 million in grants to volunteer centers and managed more than 60,000 volunteer projects. It also has created an infrastructure for the effective management of volunteers and improved the performance of its nearly 12,000 partners that enlist the nation’s volunteers. The network has achieved international prominence as a leading advocate and authority in volunteering.
