Green Light
Raleigh and Switzerland
Even though LED (light-emitting diode) light bulbs are longer lasting, more energy efficient, and provide warmer light than fluorescent bulbs, they are probably too expensive to use in your home. But in large-scale projects, the energy savings and low maintenance costs of LEDs might be worth the high price.
The Migros Supermarket in Essenbach, Switzerland, expects its new LEDs to last an average of 16 years (based on 10 hours a day of use, six days a week), while providing superior illumination. An added bonus: it has virtually eliminated the time-consuming process of changing bulbs.
The municipal parking garage in Raleigh, North Carolina, switched from stale orange fluorescents to LEDs this spring. The benefits have gone beyond the 40 percent reduction in the garage’s energy bill: The number of drivers who felt “very safe” in the parking lot increased 76 percent.

LEDs!
The pictures looks so great!, i just tested the leds in my house too, i buy some t8 led lamps of www.mexled.com and trust me they bright more than the normal fluresnt ones, well... the difference i guess is the kind of light, i mean, like these examples you post of the swiss market, the leds are useful for directional lighting, we are going to become a led world lighted in some years, i think we just started...
Good article !

Raleigh Rocks!
I used to volunteer for the City government of Raleigh this past year, and I would have to park in that parking deck during my stays.
The difference in lighting and aura that was achieved in a "parking deck" basically left you in awe. This is a parking deck?! I couldn't believe how easy it was for Raleigh to help the environment AND improve their image. I hope more is done in Raleigh and throughout the country!
