Tunnel of Love
New York
Free condoms have long been available from the New York City government, but a recent subway-themed redesign of the packaging is boosting their use more effectively than any dire warnings about STDs. The city gave away 5 million of the newly packaged prophylactics in the first month they were available, 3.5 million more than average.

SF could learn from NY
I was given one of these briliant little buggers by another volunteer. She is a student @ NYU - from Berkeley originally. During an AIDS Hotline training in SF, she brought the whole NY condom thing up. Which we all thought was a fabulous idea! FREE CONDOMS -YAY!!!
The SF AIDS Foundation pays for all the condoms they buy. As do most non-profits in CA. Yet, they give them all away for FREE at local events & community gatherings. If only SF & local CA governments were a little more open minded - as 'everyone' always claims we are here in CA. Instead, cities like SF are doing NADA to help with the $7 million in Federal AIDS funding that was lost this year to the city. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Thanks NYC
Finally, instead of preaching abstinence we're getting protection. It's about time.
