Business of Death
Throughout the developed world the business surrounding death has often been an uneasy topic of discussion. Originating in the mid-19th Century, the modern funeral has evolved into an economic and cultural monster, with a vast network of supporting industries and myriad options for your earthly remains.

Marvelous!
Is all of this true? I would love to see citations on a lot of this (for instance, my boyfriend doesn't believe that formaldehyde and methyl alcohol can leech through coffins, while I do...maybe because I am a radfem bleeding-heart liberal?)
Also, is there a bunch of rich people's shit all over the moon? How perfectly depressing.
Thanks to those who made this. Anubis rocks.

Good Death
Great way to get your point across. Inspired me to write a brief post on how Muslims bury their dead.

Coffins
Well most coffins are still just made out of timber, so they must leech in time. Don't sink your well down hill of the cemetary, seems to be the moral of the tale

other options
makes a sky burial an ecological good choice(tibetan monks left on a mountain ledge to soar with the vultures). other options, i guess, include taking on state laws given to us by a strong, self-perpetuating, undertaker lobby!

Don't Forget About Donating
You can also donate your body to science. It could be used for various things (including ballistics testing, plastic surgeon's practice, and decomposition studies). If you're morbidly interested in this kind of stuff, you should check out an entertaining book titled STIFF, by Mary Roach, which details some of the many uses for cadavers.
