Super Bowl XLII
The Big Game's Big Numbers
The Super Bowl is an advertising bonanza, a snack food orgy and—oh yeah—a football game. An original GOOD Video.

Lost in thoughts
Right now I am in a most conflicted state of mind. I see the emergence all around me of America's outspoken views that change is possible. But then I see a video like this. I cannot help to think, in the back of my mind, as much as I don't want to think it, of America destroying the world with extremities. Over $80,000 a second for a commercial! The economics seem wrong, when there are humans that do not gross a quarter of that their entire lives. I feel like a hippie, and in that fierce back of my mind a feeling of fear emerges when I go to bed without being proactive, doesn't anyone see this and can make a better system, My only wish is that I knew more about what I a talking about! :)

The context?
Yes, the numbers are impressive. But I believe you still have to look at it in its whole context. 55 million dollars of food spent by 90 million viewers only is less than 50 cents per person. 2.7 million dollars for a 30-second commercial is a mere 30 dollars for every thousand people watching it. And as for the car accidents, I doubt that these numbers are actually statistically significant. It's the same thing as those alleged "baby booms" nine months after blackouts: Usually they turn out to be based on figures only based on one hospital; and in a big country like the United States there's always at least one hospital experiencing a baby boom at the moment.
