Dems Need to Address the Issue of Drug Policy Reform

response to  Morgan Clendaniel's post Rocky Mountain High

This will be a great opportunity to bring light to some of the issues involving the failed War on Drugs. I commend the work being done in Colorado such as the SAFER (Safer Alternatives For Enjoyable Recreation) initiatives and other drug policy reform work. It's not just about legalizing drugs, it's about ending the economically and socially draining harms caused by locking up non-violent offenders for what they put in their own bodies. Yes, citizens who pose a real threat to society should be punished, but filling up our prisons with recreational drug users, minorities, and young people is not the way to rid our country of crime.
