response to  semperneoeon's post Smug civilian

    Not as smug civilian

It took me getting past being a spoiled rotten teenager, but thank G-d I got it.

I feel so much gratitude for people like you who served. It's almost embarrassing that I didn't. Thank you! G-d bless you! I'm so sorry for your friends. There are many of us who appreciate your actions. Politics aside, you've risked your life for me and my family. Thank you again.

    response to  Not_A_Sheep's post Well,

    So Deep

You must either be independently wealthy or (more likely) still reliant entirely on Mommy and Daddy. By your obsession with the unforgivable evil of being "average" and, now, your nearly insane immaturity with the role of money, you play your hand as being clueless and probably about 16.

Using money to pay bills when days and nights miserably blend into each other as you plan everything having to do with burying your daughter is hardly average.

When one is so miserably so far below average (that would be you), I guess great people (that would be my friend) would seem average.

Though I usually can't stand the name calling that happens on these forums, I will tell you that have succeeded in proving to be the biggest idiot and jerk that I have ever encountered. Hardly average. You are so right. You are not average. Thank G-d that you are not average. The world is far better because average is far above you. Stop taking drugs and consider therapy.

response to  Not_A_Sheep's post To an average one...

You strike me as a miserable person

You don't deserve any response. However, I can't ignore the end of your piece. What kind of person can be so cold as to assume that someone would "use his dead daughter's life insurance on a new car." I can only conclude that you must be that type of a person. I wish you a life where you come to see how good some people can be. I wish you a life where you can expect people to be decent. My friend is not a fiction. He is a real person whose life is forever changed because of the day that those two men showed up at his home. May you never know such pain, and may you grow up to the point where you learn to more sensitive to other's suffering.

You don't deserve this, but I'll tell you. The money didn't go for a new car or any luxury. It helped an exceptionally decent family get through an exceptionally difficult time.

    Grow up!

response to  joemama's post Let me summarize your post

    Hmm

I won't pretend that I've never been insulting on an anonymous post, but I recognize that it's the "low road" and try to avoid it. If we were in person, it could be an interesting debate as to whether or not I'm stupid, but let's put it to the side. Generally, I don't think so, but maybe. I usually spend time with some freaky geniuses, so compared to them, I think you're right.

You make some good points, but you misunderstand me and go nutso in your love of anonymity that I couldn't resist a brief response on a couple of minor points. Please note that the guy below you is such an obnoxious jerk as to not deserve response, so at least I'm recognizing that behind your anger and quickness to abandon decent conversation/debate, there is a "good guy." I think I was tripped up by your military service - I admire it and want to respond because of it.

You took my usage of Obama and Osama wayyyyy too far. I believe Osama is evil. I believe Obama is a fool of the largest proportions. You can bleet at me all day long, but if you want to see the sheep in this country, take a look at the Obama camp. I am more than a little aware of the fact that Obama is a Christian. Let's just say that religion is one of my passions. (It doesn't mean that I'm the sheep that you think I am, but far little fascinates me more than religion's role in the world.) I will say unabashedly that I am not a Christian. And though I'm not answering all of your points and the ones I'm answering are out of order (being hurried is a blessing and a curse), having great confidence in my own spiritual/life path is my greatest protection from fundamental Christians.

I work way too hard and way too many hours to have responded with more than the bullet points than I did. Even now, I will not engage you in a lengthy debate on the role of taxes/gov't/military.

Where I can't even start a debate is on whether or not there are a very large number of militant Muslims who are willing to organize and fight until they have the world living under sharia or until they are no more. I vote for what's behind door #2.

The last point that I can't ignore is the idea about sending my kids to the military. One: how exactly does that work? Do I dictate to them what to eat as well? How about what to wear? Shall I lock them in a cellar until they listen to my perfect wisdom? So point one: give me a break on "sending" my kids anywhere. I can/will raise them to serve G-d first and country second. If they are not actively engaged in a seminary-type lifestyle, they will have my strongest encouragement to pursue a military option. Point two on the kids: exactly which branch of the miliary is accepting 14 year old girls?

Chill out on the personal attacks. If you are decent, try to assume that other people are as well. If you are capable of independent thought, give me the benefit of the doubt as well. I have aligned myself at different times of my life strongly with the left and the right. (I now stand curiously off to the side.) Having been in both camps, I'll tell you that the left is far more sheep-like and devoid of honest conversation than the right. I hardly ever listen to Rush. I'm not who you think I am. Maybe your tendency to see the sheep in me (or others) should be cause for you to look in the mirror for an extra second or two.

response to  joemama's post John Mc Cain is the devil

    Funny Opinion On The Devil

    Point by point
*Your title - Obama and Osama far worse than McCain.
*100 years of war better than wearing burkas - also not war but presence - but don't let the facts bother you.
*Depleted military helped by building it up, not choosing defeat in a war against true evil (yes, militant Islam is even worse than republicans).
*I would send my kids with tears - but yep I'd send 'em.
*My dear friend - lives across the street and two doors down - lost his daughter. Of course, he'd rather her be alive, but he thinks that people with your opinion would make her death lose all of its meaning. He's proud of her.
*Cutting taxes stimulates the economy. What he's afraid to say bc he's a politician - and this is the unpopular part of the message - is that tax cuts means cutting gov't programs! Yeah!
*The last eight years of republicans has kept my wife and daughters out of burkas, too, dear friend.
