Still Too Commercial

Professor Wang,

As a fellow hip-hop fan and sinophile, I found your article very interesting. However, I think that much of China's hip-hop, and music from every other genre for that matter, is far too commercial, perhabs as a result of Western influences. Besides the musical and lyrical qualities of great hip-hop artists like Wu-Tang, the subject matter of their song's reflect much of the social problems present in American (urban) life. I wonder if perhaps in the near future mainland Chinese musicians like BlaKK Bubble will use their artform to spur social change.
