

Rebecca MacKinnon is an Assistant Professor at Hong Kong University’s Journalism and Media Studies Center. Fluent in Mandarin Chinese, she served as CNN’s Beijing Bureau Chief and Correspondent from 1998-2001 and as CNN’s Tokyo Bureau Chief and Correspondent from 2001-03. Before arriving in Hong Kong in January 2007 MacKinnon was a Research Fellow at Harvard Law School's Berkman Center for Internet and Society, where her research and writing focused on issues related to the Internet in China as well as the future journalism in the Internet age. She is co-founder of GlobalVoicesOnline.org, an international citizens’ media network. Her blog is: Rconversation.com.
