Pollution tourism! Yeah!

Great article, Eric. I'm somewhat obsessed with pollution tourism (having vacationed in both Chernobyl and in Kanpur, India's most polluted city).
How did you choose your destinations for this list? You avoid all the standard places that show up on "most polluted" lists.
Thanks for a great article, and let me know if you ever need tips or contacts for visiting Chernobyl.

I just followed my nose...
No, seriously, I looked a couple of different ways. I knew some places that were already official destinations (Salton Sea, Berkeley Pit) and then searched for unofficial ones (Centralia). Then I thought, what are some biggies that I'd like to see? And the largest landfill and plastic vortex came out at the top of the list.
I would be psyched to visit Chernobyl!
