a little confusing is it really apples to apples
response to GOOD magazine and David Albertson's post Teacher Salaries
Hard to tell from this infographic if the white collar worker you're comparing teacher's salaries to also has at least a bachelors (in some states masters are required), whether they're in jobs that require recertification every 6 years (as in my state), etc.
Are the avg teachers salaries listed an average of the actual salaries of teachers in that state or the average of the salary ranges a teacher can make? I've seen far too many comments about teachers salaries elsewhere that list the highest salary that teachers can make in a district. They never say whether there are any teachers that actually make that salary. For example the highest one in my husband's district is something like $65K. That's for someone who has taught for at least 20 years and has a masters. No one in his district is getting that salary.
