response to MAP2010's post McCain will beat Obama
Knowledge of world affairs should probably include knowing the difference from Sunni and Shia in the region of the world where you plan to continue a military operation. Does experience include under the table deals? (Keating 5)
"Better understands people's problems" and "has a clearer vision for the future" are probably more important. An experienced man who does not care what the public thinks probably shouldn't be president. He'd make a good general, but he'd be an awful president. Vision for the future is important. If McCain wants to continue a war, but he has absolutely no idea how he's going to do that right now, I don't want to wake up in November and realize with him that we're up a certain creek without a paddle.

I'll grant that Hillary did well and graduated from Wellesley and Georgetown, but I fail to see how she earned her current status, unless you count marriage as a form of "earning".

response to conservative's post Who is Really the Devil
What's so important about you and your money? If you have time and money to be posting comments on the internet, you haven't had that much stolen from you. You're just a selfish person who can't see all of the benefits you reap everyday from our taxes. If you don't want to pay, fine. Stop driving on roads, stop buying government inspected meat, and stop complaining when you are old and can't support yourself. If you want to pay less taxes, consider writing your representative to tell him or her to not support frivolous spending on wars, but if your representative is a republican, don't expect him or her to listen unless he or she is up for reelection this term.
If McCain really cares for the constitution, he should at least support the right to Habeas Corpus, which is clearly written in (Cf. article 1, section 9). He should under no circumstance agree with those anti-activist judges like Scalia. I can see him abusing the powers of the executive office as much as #43.

response to Swatantra's post McCain bans ALL abortions
It's not so simple. If John McCain wants to support abortion, that's fine. I will debate him all night, but I support everyone's opinion as long as it's backed by some sort of logic, reason, or moral standard. No one will ever agree. It is, however, completely UNACCEPTABLE to swing both ways and contradict yourself in the process. You cannot support the right to life of a fetus but discard the value of life of a terrorist suspect who could be innocent. It's distressing to find such double standards invoked in every aspect of this campaign and even every aspect of our lives. The unborn child and the innocent terrorism suspect are one and same. Support life or don't, don't pick one when it's convenient for your set of moral standards. You should always challenge your moral standards and scrutinize them, so that when the real test comes, you are 100% sure in your moral rectitude and are willing to give your life for it without regret.

response to jtama's post What is wrong with you people.
I'm not going to be as negative as you, but it is true that Americans are selfish. One of the first things my mom noticed when we moved to the U.S. is how often people say "I want" or "I need". What ever happened to "ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country?"

response to EmmaLee3's post We don't live in a fairy tale!
If the US wants to pursue an aggressive foreign policy in a globalized world, it has no choice but to accept that fact that labor is expensive in the States. Since right wing nut jobs like you insist on having a free market, you can not complain about businesses going aboard. In fact, it is ILLEGAL for businesses not to pursue policies of maximizing their profit.
If you keep complaining about taxes, you should not drive on public roads, receive protection from the police and fire department, or deserve to get any of the food you eat inspected. Taxes are an integral part of the function of government. Just because you are too selfish to realize how much the government helps you in your life everyday does not mean that you shouldn't pay for those services. If you want to lower your taxes, tell your representative not to authorize frivolous war and defense spending.
What I'm really concerned about is your crazy right wing media wackos on Fox News etc. I have never seen such blatant twisting of the truth.
The reason this country is on a downward spiral is because we ceded the legislature and executive branches to you after the Bill Clinton scandal. The Democrats have only been in control for about 2 years, so that entire mess you are describing is actually the fallout from what the Republicans have done since 2004.
You're right about one thing though. This country has not been attacked since 9/11. And this country was not attacked before 9/11 either. What makes you think that your life and welfare are so important as to wage a war, to which you contribute nearly nothing, on the narrow chance that it might be saved?

"Different opinion about what he said? He specifically said, "That would be fine with me. As long as Americans are not being injured or harmed or wounded or killed, that’s fine with me." He also specifically said, "We've been in South Korea...we’ve been in Japan for 60 years". Are we at war in those countries?"
Actually, America never concluded the Korean War. Technically speaking, we're still at war with North Korea.

What I see a lot on this page and on other blogs really troubles me. The greatest threat to the American way of life is not some random terrorist with a bomb. It is lack of faith in the democratic system, faith that despite the imperfect nature of elected officials, they will serve their nation. This lack of faith is why democracy fails in so many places around the world. It's hard to keep that faith after these past 8 years, but if we give up, sectarian violence will be in our homes. So for once, instead of the pessimistic complaining, tell your least unpalatable candidate what you want and how to make America better for you.
