"Better understands people's problems" and "has a clearer vision for the future" are probably more important. An experienced man who does not care what the public thinks probably shouldn't be president. He'd make a good general, but he'd be an awful president. Vision for the future is important. If McCain wants to continue a war, but he has absolutely no idea how he's going to do that right now, I don't want to wake up in November and realize with him that we're up a certain creek without a paddle.
